THE IDEA - EQUAL WRITES
We are looking for intelligent, courageous stories forged on the intersections of race, religion and gender with voices that shape the new discussion on diversity.
Give us a brave new story that challenges our status quo to show a rebellious, re-imagined vision of diversity on screen. We don't
want afterschool specials. We want outlaw identity films; well-written, original genre films (Thriller, Action, Sci-Fi or Horror) with characters we haven't seen before, from voices we haven't heard. This is an invitation to unapologetically expose our current world's ever-evolving social/political machinations with a truly excellent genre film you'd love to see on a 25-foot screen.
We welcome controversial pieces that give us a unique perspective on identity politics in an unconventional way. Flip the script and challenge our expectations. Give us some social complexity, Damnit! In terms of diversity, think Attack the Block, Traffic, Slumdog Millionaire, City of God, Django Unchained, The Wire, Sessions and Beasts of the Southern Wild.
Make it sexy, make it unorthodox, make it rebellious and make the word diversity not so damn politically correct.
BTW, micro-budget means under $250k. So throw out your helicopters, car chases and explosions and replace them with strong characters and smart choices.
